Vivio VineyardMyriad Cellars Vivio Vineyard Syrah
Vivio was one of the first of the “renaissance” vineyards to be planted in the Petaluma Gap, the wind-sheared channel between Bodega and San Pablo Bays – a source of bracingly structured, increasingly sought-after cool-climate wine. Typical of the Vivio approach to grape growing – there is no stone left unturned in trying to grow the best possible grapes in Petaluma Gap.. If it takes baby-doll sheep for mowing, or planting Alyssum under the vines, or netting the vines to stop bird damage, or organic farming practices, then these are all methods employed at Vivio Estate. This amazing vineyard site is gently sloping to the west in an area just north of San Pablo Bay where very cool breezes from the Petaluma Gap and lots of fog allow grapes to keep natural acidity and to develop flavors without getting too high in sugar. As well as being great people to work with, we have a great respect for their commitment to sustainable practices.
The vineyard grows both Syrah and Pinot noir and is planted with a number of highly regarded clones of both. In 2020 we were able to get tiny amounts of this highly sought after Syrah to add to our cool climate portfolio. It’s the cool climate Syrah that Mike has always wanted to make. , Elegant, delicate and expressive side of the grape this will produce a wine with intensity without being heavy and with naturally balanced acid, tannin and fruit. Amazing addition to the Myriad Syrah portfolio.
