2009 Myriad Cellars Syrah
Las Madres 100% Whole Cluster, Carneros, Sonoma
Release date March 8, 2011 - 23 cases produced.
There’s no sophomore slump for the 2009 100% whole cluster version of the Las Madres vineyard. Due to the incorporation of the ancient form of foot tread winemaking, this wine is always a joy to make.
Cool clusters delivered to the winery get an immediate 30 minute treading by the newest intern. Staying with traditional pre-industrial old school winemaking, this wine is naturally fermented with no lab work or sugar measurements.
In the glass, immediately you are drawn to the wines softer hues due to the stems soaking up some of the pigment. Aromas of all spice, peppercorns, subtle plum and star fruit emerge from the glass. A smooth mid palate glides into a beautiful finish. Citrus zest combined with rich fruit is the core of this wine.
Already complex due to its vilification method, look for this wine to develop nicely with 3-5 years of bottle age.
