2009 Myriad Cellars Petit Verdot
Rutherford, Napa Valley

In 2009 Myriad Cellars was offered a stunning block of old vine Petit Verdot from Rutherford where the growing climate is ideally suited for this varietal.  The vineyard owners willingness to crop back to one cluster per shoot at verasion, made this purchase a no brainer.

Winemakers worldwide have used Petit Verdot in blends, but seldom create a wine based purely on this varietal due to its late ripening and slow maturation process 2009 Myriad Cellars Petit Verdot Rutherford once fermented and bottled.  We were so impressed by this single barrel, we felt it could easily stand alone.

Immediately, its deep and intense color makes this wine seem imposing.  Aromas of violets, blue and black fruits, graphite and espresso dominate the nose.  True to this varietal, the mid pallet is slighted by tannin and a distinct minerality and uncharacteristic lushness.  Spice covered Mulberry and Huckleberry flavors are combined spring flowers and subtle oak overtones on the finish.

We recommend aging this muscular and powerful wine as it will continue to evolve in the bottle for 10-20 years and reward those patient enough with a wine of striking elegance, complexity and body.
